Aluminum silver paste is characterized by smooth, flat aluminum flakes with a narrow particle size distribution and regular shapes, offering excellent light reflectivity and a metallic luster. When mixed with transparent colored pigments, the resulting coating film exhibits a distinct "angle-dependent color shift effect," creating a stunningly ornamental and visually appealing finish. Generally speaking, aluminum silver paste can be categorized into two main types: floating and non-floating.
Floating silver paste typically refers to high-flotation and standard types, which incorporate additives during production to enhance the aluminum flakes' buoyancy and reduce surface tension. As the paint solvent evaporates, these additives enable the aluminum flakes to float up to the surface of the coating film. The advantage of this process is that it imparts the coating film with exceptional reflective and chrome-like effects. However, a notable drawback is that the aluminum flakes tend to easily detach from the coating surface, making recoating particularly challenging. Floating aluminum silver paste is commonly used in applications such as coatings for ships, storage tanks, industrial paints, inks, and plastics.
Non-floating aluminum silver paste typically includes fine silver, shimmering silver, and electroplating-like finishes. The advantage of non-floating silver paste lies in its ability to be fully wetted by coatings, allowing it to distribute evenly throughout the entire paint film—and even exhibiting a natural tendency to settle downward. This results in a robust, stable coating that can also withstand multiple recoats with clear topcoats. Non-floating aluminum silver paste is commonly used in applications such as leather goods, coil materials, and textiles; printing, inks, and furniture manufacturing; metallic paints (for hardware products); plastic coatings (for appliance surfaces and electronic devices); as well as industrial paints and architectural coatings.
Precautions for storing aluminum silver paste:
1. Store in a sealed container indoors, maintaining a temperature between 15°C and 40°C (pay special attention during winter or when ambient temperatures are at or below 10°C). Avoid direct exposure to sunlight, rain, or excessively high temperatures.
2. Excessive shaking and vibration during transportation, as well as storage under certain conditions, may lead to partial separation of the aluminum and solvent components. Therefore, avoid high-speed stirring during use to prevent damaging the shape of the silver flakes.
3. Storage time should not be too long (6–12 months). Once the package is opened and used, it should be consumed as soon as possible. If you cannot use it all at once, immediately reseal it tightly to prevent the solvents and additives in the aluminum-silver paste from evaporating.
