Product Details
Product Overview
Water-based aluminum pigments, also known as water-based aluminum silver paste, have emerged alongside the growing popularity of waterborne coatings. Aluminum is a reactive, amphoteric metal that readily interacts with water, acids, and bases. As a result, when used in water-based resin systems, it requires specialized surface treatment. These products are widely suitable for both general industrial paints and automotive coatings, and they are free from heavy metals. Additionally, they effectively control the presence of nonylphenol, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, plasticizers, and benzene derivatives.

1. Storage Stability Test (This test is recommended before using aluminum silver paste)
Prepare 200g of paint by mixing 1 part aluminum silver paste with 9 parts water-based base material (pH = 5–9), then store the mixture in a sealed container at 40°C for 30 days or at 50°C for 7 days. After storage, assess any changes in overall performance and ensure that the gas release does not exceed 10 ml.
Step 1: It is recommended to pre-disperse the aluminum paste in a solvent (such as ether, alcohol, or deionized water—either individually or in combination) at a ratio of 1:1.5 or 1:2. Adding a wetting and dispersing agent during the pre-dispersion process will yield even better results.
Step 2: Add the water-based resin and other additives to the dispersion tank according to the formulated proportions, and mix thoroughly.
Step 3: While stirring, slowly add the aluminum paste dispersion into the well-dispersed water-based resin system. Stir at low speed (a paddle-type disperser is recommended, with the rotation speed maintained between 300 and 500 rpm) until the mixture is thoroughly homogenized, ensuring complete dispersion of the pigment for optimal results.
The WA and WD series aluminum silver paste has a shelf life of 3 months when unopened. Once opened, it easily comes into contact with air, so to prevent quality degradation, please use it up as soon as possible. It’s not recommended to store the paint made from this product for extended periods. The WH and WL series aluminum silver paste, on the other hand, can be stored for up to 12 months when unopened. If the expiration date has passed, we recommend conducting a small-scale test before use. After mixing with paint, it’s advised to store the product for no longer than 5 months.
Please avoid direct exposure to light, keep away from open flames, water, corrosive substances, and ensure the temperature does not exceed 25°C.
Humidity should not exceed 60%; seal the container immediately after taking out the material.
The testing methods and storage guidelines provided above are reference data derived from our company’s market customer feedback as well as internal experiments, intended solely for your consideration. Given variations in systems, formulations, usage environments, and other factors, customers are strongly advised to conduct thorough testing before use to avoid unnecessary financial losses.
