How does mirror silver perform? We all know that mirror silver delivers an excellent mirror-like finish, making it a viable alternative to electroplating while also helping to sidestep the environmental concerns and pollution issues often associated with the electroplating process. So, have you ever delved deeper into mirror silver? Let’s find out together—let’s take a look!
How is the performance of mirror silver?
How does mirror silver perform? Before answering this question, let’s first understand what mirror silver actually is. As far as we know, mirror silver—also referred to as electroplated silver—is produced using high-purity aluminum wire as the raw material and a unique vapor-phase method. The process involves placing a vacuum-aluminum-coated film into an ultrasonic separator filled with a special solution. Thanks to the cavitation effect of ultrasound, the aluminum film is carefully detached from the PET film, resulting in aluminum flakes of varying sizes with exceptionally smooth, mirror-like surfaces. Finally, these flakes undergo kneading and surface treatment to become the finished mirror silver product.
The mirror-like silver surface boasts exceptional hiding power and brightness, making it incredibly versatile. It is widely used in industries such as paint for cosmetics, wine bottles, plastics, automobiles, as well as in printing inks—including decorative glass inks for home interiors, appliance glass inks, smartphone lens inks, and gravure inks for tobacco and liquor packaging—helping products elevate their perceived quality while delivering a striking visual impact.
1. Thinness is key. Compared to conventional aluminum silver paste, its most distinctive feature is that the aluminum flakes boast nanoscale thickness—typically exceeding 200 nm in diameter-to-thickness ratio. This allows for excellent mirror-like effects even with minimal usage, enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the final product.
II. Excellent mirror effect. The flake-shaped aluminum flakes used in the mirror silver finish are highly smooth, resembling shattered pieces of a mirror. In the electroplated silver resin system, these aluminum flakes act like mirrors, effectively reflecting light and creating a stunning electroplating effect—making them a viable alternative to traditional electroplating processes.
3. Excellent environmental performance. Conventional, non-environmentally friendly aluminum silver pastes typically rely on petroleum-based solvents and contain environmentally harmful modifiers. In contrast, Mirror Silver does not use these harmful substances, making it free from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, benzene derivatives, and halogenated heavy metals—thus qualifying as an eco-friendly product.
That’s all for today’s content on "How Does Mirror Silver Perform?" Stay tuned for more—see you in the next episode!
