What are the main types of aluminum powder? With the advancement of industrial technology, aluminum powder has become an indispensable raw material in numerous industries. In fact, depending on the production process, aluminum powder can vary significantly across different sectors. Many newcomers to the industry often find themselves confused by these subtle "secrets." So, let’s follow along with the editor and learn more together!

Aluminum powder is mainly divided into several types.
What are the main types of aluminum powder? As far as I know, aluminum powder is sometimes referred to as "silver powder" in certain regions—specifically, it’s a gray metallic pigment made by adding a small amount of lubricant to pure aluminum foil, then crushing it into a flaky powder through pounding and compression. This powder is further polished to create a fine, powdery pigment. Typically, aluminum powder is categorized based on its key characteristics: lightweight, high buoyancy, strong opacity, and excellent reflectivity of light and heat. These categories include ultra-fine aluminum powder, super-fine aluminum powder, steelmaking aluminum powder, and regular fine aluminum powder, among others.
The production of aluminum powder is relatively complex, with the process primarily divided into air atomization and nitrogen atomization. Air atomization is the most common production method used domestically, offering low costs—but it also results in lower product quality and safety standards. In contrast, Xuyang produces spherical aluminum powder mainly through the nitrogen atomization process. This method involves compressing nitrogen gas and forcing it through a nozzle, where it breaks down molten aluminum into fine droplets. These droplets are then rapidly cooled by a large volume of nitrogen gas, transforming them into metallic powder. The powder is subsequently passed through a分级 system to separate aluminum particles into different size ranges, followed by a second round of grading. Finally, the sorted spherical aluminum powder is collected and discharged via baghouse dust collection technology. Overall, the entire system operates as a nearly closed-loop circulation system.
Typically, nitrogen-aluminum powder produced using this process can quickly prevent oxidation reactions that generate hazardous gases; it’s easy to operate and places low demands on production safety. Nitrogen-atomized aluminum powder has a regular appearance, as the rapid condensation of liquid droplets allows them to quickly form spherical particles. Additionally, the aluminum powder exhibits excellent hardness, and thanks to its swift gelation, the powder becomes more compact, resulting in aluminum powder with superior physical properties.
That’s all for the knowledge about "What Are the Main Types of Aluminum Powder?" We hope it was helpful to you. Stay tuned for more exciting industry insights in our next installment!
